Throwback Thursday

Be me, about to start grade three, rocking out to Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne.
Be me now, eleven years later, watching the music video for Here's to Never Growing Up and watching my childhood come out on a skateboard at the 2:06 mark.

Because, ladies and gentleman, I know not who this woman is,

for in my mind, this is, and always will be the real Avril.

Made me sort of nostalgic for the early 2000s.  Avril Lavigne is someone who I feel my generation grew up with.  We were young when she came out, we loved her music, we still love her music, and we've seen her grow up.  I can't get over how she's onto her second marriage.

Other things I am nostalgic for from grade three:

  • Beanie Babies were still popular.  I am far from ashamed to admit that I still have many of mine.
  • Recess and noon hour
  • The anticipation for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to come to theatres (it was the first movie I saw in my town's new theatre)
  • Getting excited to read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and yelling "DON'T TELL ME!" every time someone said, "I know who dies!"
  • Camera phones were new and fandangled.
  • iTunes was new
  • Trying to convince my mum to buy me Beyblades
  • Knowing just enough about politics that jokes like "Bush sent the military to school because he heard they had weapons of Math Instructions" made sense
  • Not knowing enough about politics, so you didn't feel cynical and depressed about the world
  • P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney!
  • Hillary Duff was still cool
  • Every Thursday, and the grade twos and threes would gather in my classroom last period for "Sing Song."  Tick Tock People was my favourite song
Things I am not nostalgic for:
  • Stupid elementary school drama
  • No freedom
  • Being concerned about the Norwalk virus, SARS, Mad Cow, and West Nile, then proceeding to get the Norwalk virus (needless to say, it was not fun)
